About the Emil Buehler Planetarium

The Emil Buehler Planetarium is part of the Seminole State College of Florida. It’s located on the Lake Mary campus and has been open to the public for more than 25 years! From school field trips to outings with friends and family, all kinds of gatherings have been hosted at this fun and exciting planetarium.

There are seemingly never-ending events at this fun locale. But here are the top three reasons you should check it out:

1. Live, Interactive Shows

As an educational fixture, the Emil Buehler Planetarium makes learning fun! Many of the facility’s resources have been dedicated to planning and hosting live, interactive shows.

Each broadcast is more informational than the last. You, your student, and whoever else you bring along can learn about:

  • Our solar system
  • The Cretaceous period
  • How science and science fiction overlap
  • Light pollution
  • The Nile River

These are just a few topics covered in the planetarium’s live shows. Check out their calendar for a more comprehensive look.

2. Outreach Events

“Sidewalk astronomy” is a term the planetarium has coined and lived by. Because they want to make science as accessible as possible, the staff often bring the planetarium to other locales — from public schools to other gatherings in the area — making it available to people with limited budgets or traveling abilities.

3. Telescope Thursdays

Last but not least, check out the planetarium for their Telescope Thursdays! The planetarium staff visits different areas in Central Florida to take full advantage of the night sky.
